SESCOM and TANESCO (Tanzania Electric Supply Company Limited) have formalised a partnership that allows electricity customers to acquire SESCOM Electric Pressure Cookers and repay the cost through their monthly electricity bills.
This utility on-bill financing model removes the biggest barrier to adoption, the upfront cost, making it possible for low- and middle-income households connected to the national grid to switch from charcoal immediately.
The program initially targets customers in Dar es Salaam, Dodoma, and Mwanza regions, with plans to expand nationally by the end of 2025.
"We believe that combining clean cooking appliances with a familiar, trusted payment channel is the fastest path to scale," noted SESCOM's Business Development team. "Customers pay as they cook, literally."
